Dr. Itxarone Bilbao is currently the head of subdivision of hepatobiliary and liver transplant unit . She is a liver surgeon focusing on adult and pediatric liver transplantation and is responsible for the living donor surgery for liver transplantation in children. She is an associate professor of the Faculty of Medicine in Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, member of the digestive transplants research group of Vall d’Hebron Institute Research and member of Advisory Board for liver transplantation in Catalonia.
Itxarone received her undergraduate degree from the Medical School of the University of Basque Country (Euskal Herriko Unibertsi tatea) and her doctorate from the Medical School of the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. She completed her internship and residency on surgery in the Hospital Universitario Vall d’Hebron. She was trained on liver transplantation by Dr Carlos Margarit.
Itxarone has enjoined working in all aspects of liver surgery and has contributed to the field of liver transplantation with more than 250 articles, book chapters and oral communications in national and international congress.
