Dr. Willem Weimar is Professor of Internal Medicine at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After obtaining his medical degree at this facility, he completed his thesis on the properties and applications of interferons and specialised in internal medicine, nephrology and organ transplantation. He is a council member of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT), has served as Secretary of the Dutch Transplantation Society, is the Chair of the board of the Dutch Transplantation Foundation and was instrumental in initiating the launch of the European Platform on Ethical, Legal and Psychosocial Aspects of Organ Transplantation. He is a well-published author with approximately 600 articles to date in international peer-reviewed journals.
