Currently, Danica Avsec, MD is Director of Slovenija-transplant, Institute for Transplantation of Organs and Tissues of the Republic of Slovenia.
Finished Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, MD award in 1982.
Finished specialization in anaesthesiology and Intensive Care in Ljubljana in 1990.
Nominated for Primarius in 2002 and for Counsellor in 2008 due to work on implementation of new treatments and the organization of transplant activities, implementation of education at the national level in the field of organ donation and transplantation medicine, publishing articles on the topic of infections in ICU, therapeutic bronchoscopy and donor management.
Director of the Institute for organ and tissue transplantation of the Republic Slovenia, Ljubljana, and first nomination in 2001 (re-elected in 2005, 2009 and 2013).
Functional areas of work and competences: managing Slovenia-transplant institute, coordinating transplant coordinators at national and hospital level, assisting in the process of characterization of donors and organs concerning suitability for transplantation, promoting transplantation and donation for professional and lay public, communicating with media, leading and cooperating in European projects, Leader of European Donation Day Project.
Published several expert and popular articles and expert books on the subject of donation and transplantation, held invited lectures in Slovenia and abroad.
Member of national and international expert bodies.
