Ingela Fehrman-Ekholm is Consultant Nephrologist at Dep. of Transplant Surgery Karolinska Univeristy Hospital and responsible for evaluation and follow-up of kidney donors and kidney recipients. She gained her MD in 1973 and PhD in 1981. She was appointed Professor in Transplant Nephrology at Sahlgrenska Academy in 2009. Her research experience includes transplantation immunology, clinical transplantation and kidney donation. The thesis was titled “Pretransplant blood transfusions and kidney allograft survival”, presented in 1981. Dr Fehrman-Ekholm is author and co-author of more than 300 articles including books, chapters in books and abstracts in national and international journals. In 2005 she was awarded the Gelin Medal.
During the last two decades she has been an often invited speaker surrounding issues on living organ donation. She has also been an active partner in two European living donor projects to promote and protect the living donors.
